GTAW and PAW Gas Shielding Devices
Improve your Shielding Protection on All Alloys for Better Quality Welds
High
precision gas auxiliary and trailing shields for the most demanding applications

PWT offers a product line of sophisticated gas auxiliary and trailing shields, or trail cups,
that dramatically improve the performance of a standard GTAW/PAW torch. The
devices incorporate PWT's patented technology for modifying
the inert gas pressure and flow from a single source (entering the standard
torch) into efficient multiple shielding paths.

Our gas shields can be used in aerospace, semiconductor, vacuum, medical,
nuclear, food/beverage processing, oil exploration, and
other industries where absolute inert gas coverage is required. Our gas auxiliary and trailing shields
are an excellent choice for welding all alloys such as iron, nickel,
cobalt, and titanium base alloys.
The Ultimate ShieldŽ gas auxiliary/trailing shields are
state-of-the-art gas shielding systems designed to interface with industry
common machine or manual gas tungsten arc welding torches. The auxiliary shields and trail shields
are supplied with only one source of argon, that coming into the
welding torch. No secondary tube is utilized to supply inert gas to the
shields. The success of the devices is attributed to the optimum
distribution of gas and the correct gas velocity ratios between the
multiple gas paths due to PWT's unique gas metering technology.

Ultimate ShieldŽ Gas Trailing Shield (P/N 430301)
The Ultimate ShieldŽ gas trailer provides an effective secondary gas curtain
around the primary gas, which is directly over the molten pool. This secondary
system prevents air from disturbing the primary gas. The trailing system supplies
inert gas over the heat affected area as the hot metal traverses out of the
primary and secondary systems without any interruption of gas coverage between
the systems. The total length from the front portion of the shield to the back end is 3.3".

Ultimate ShieldŽ Plus "2" Gas Trailing Shield (P/N 430302)
The Ultimate ShieldŽ Plus "2" gas trailer is like its sister, P/N 430301, except it is 2" longer. This shield was designed to enhance the welding gas shielding protection on parts that require a longer gas coverage area than our standard Ultimate ShieldŽ trailing shield (P/N 430301) provides. The total length from the front portion of the shield to the back end is 5.3".

Ultimate ShieldŽ Narrow Groove Trailing Shield (P/N 430303)

|
The Ultimate ShieldŽ narrow groove trailing shield is now available to access weld joints at the bottom of deep, narrow openings. The trail shield extends into a 1.2" (30mm) deep groove as narrow as 0.8" (20mm) wide, resulting in superior shielding protection in narrow grooves like never before. |

- Ultimate ShieldŽ Curved Trailing Shield (P/N 430307) NEW for 2016
(select to see larger image)
|
PWT's latest family of trailing shields is the small, curved shield. The
Ultimate ShieldŽ curved trailing shield is ideal for enhancing the welding gas shielding protection on your circumferential parts such as pipe and tube. Our shields are designed for circumferential parts from 1/2 inch to 8 inches in diameter. We supply our patented shroud/body that fits over the welding torch ceramic cup, as our straight Ultimate ShieldŽ does, and a removable skirt that attaches to the shroud body.
|
6 skirt sizes (select to see larger image)
|
Our skirts are designed for your circumferential hardware in increments of 1/2" - 1 1/2", 1 1/2" - 2 1/2", 2 1/2" - 3 1/2", 3 1/2" - 4 1/2", 4 1/2" - 6", and 6" - 8". Therefore, you may purchase a shield for any one of these size ranges, or if your requirements are to weld several of these size ranges, you may buy one “full” shield assembly and additional individual skirts of different sizes. We also supply kits which have the smaller four skirt sizes in them or larger kits with all six skirt sizes in them. |
- Ultimate ShieldŽ Gas Auxiliary Shields (P/N's 430311
& 430312)
The auxiliary shields provide several effective secondary gas curtains
around the primary gas, which is directly over the molten pool.

P/N 430311
Our larger auxiliary shield, 2.0" in diameter, has three secondary systems (inner, central, & outer) providing maximum shielding protection to the weld and a large effective coverage area.

P/N 430312
This unit, with two secondary systems
(inner & outer), is smaller, 1.5" in diameter, and lighter in weight than P/N 430311.

- Ultimate ShieldŽ High Heat Trailing Shield (Body P/N's 430301HH-1 and 430302HH-1) NEW for 2016
|
PWT has adapted its technology to high current, aka, "high-heat"
applications. We use a copper perforated screen (shown at right) as the
bottom screen allowing the standard Ultimate ShieldŽ or Ultimate ShieldŽ
Plus "2" assemblies to withstand high welding currents and "high heat"
transfer to the bottom screen. |

- “Special” Small Torch Extension/Trailing Shield Assembly (also called Curved Torch) NEW for 2016
The “Special” Weld Torch extension, or “Curved Torch”, would be able to access the inside seal teeth on turbine engine knife edge seals with multiple sets of seal teeth or similar applications.
The torch will be made to curve around an upper overhang, so that proper weld buildup, including gas shielding protection, can be afforded to the inner seal teeth. The specially designed “U” shaped tubing assembly will have the capability to conduct electricity and gas.
|
|
- The torch/trailing shield head, which is “racetrack” shaped, is about 1/4" (6.4mm) thick in order to fit into a small opening.
- The bottom screen will be a specially made “fine mesh” stainless steel screen material that we utilize in our standard trailing shields.
- The trailer compartment is designed to supply an even, laminar gas flow coming out of the head, for absolute gas protection of the part's critical seal teeth.

- Micro-Plasma Gas Auxiliary Shields
(select to see larger image)
|
PWT's micro-plasma welding torch gas auxiliary shields are
designed to interface with industry common manual or machine M-PAW
torches. The design is similar to their GTAW cousins. Precise machining
allows them to fit over and seal to the M-PAW torch copper nozzle. |
- Plasma Gas Trailing Shields
PWT also produces a family of gas trailing shields to interface with the Thermal Arc PAW torches. |
